Expert-approved decorating ideas to help you style your space this summer

Summer is in full swing, bringing with it a wave of bold, breezy style. From mood-boosting stripes to the laid-back allure of resortcore, this season’s standout design trends are all about embracing sunshine, sea air, and effortless living.

Refreshing your space for summer sets the tone for joyful hosting – from lazy lunches that spill from kitchen to patio to relaxed garden gatherings and the kind of easy indoor-outdoor entertaining summer was made for.

Whether you're planning a full seasonal glow-up or just a few subtle swaps, these trends are your shortcut to capturing that feel-good summer vibe.

We spoke to leading interior experts and designers to get the lowdown on the must-have summer decorating ideas for 2025 — plus clever styling tips to help you bring the look home.

Stripes have been making a strong style statement this year – and as we move into summer, they’re arriving with a fresh nautical twist in classic maritime blues and crisp whites, as well as in playful pairings like soft pastels.

'Traditionally tied to heritage interiors, today's stripes feel more refined and versatile,' says Julian Page, head of design at BHS. 'They're subtle enough to work with timeless colour palettes but bold enough to add definition and character to a space.'

Want to dip into the trend without going overboard?Julian recommends starting with soft furnishings — striped cushions or a throw at the foot of the bed can introduce just the right touch of pattern. 'They're especially effective when layered with plains and tactile textures for a well-balanced look,' he adds.

We might be deep into summer, but The White Lotus and its dreamy, sun-soaked aesthetic are still living rent-free in our minds.

'This trend is all about embracing the tranquil energy of island life while making the perfect midimalism statement,' says Dayna Isom Johnson, trends expert at Etsy. 'To live your best tropical island life all year round, dot some tropical scented candles around your home with some lush green plants.'

For a luxe take on the look, we're loving the H&M Home x Palm Heights collab, which combines bold, resort-style patterns with a splash of retro charm.

Millennial grey and pink had their moment — but now it’s all about millennial green.

Inspired by nature, this soft, soothing shade is taking centre stage in 2025’s biggest design trend: turning our homes into sanctuaries for wellbeing. With its calming energy and effortless versatility, it’s no wonder this sage shade is gaining traction.

‘This muted green pairs beautifully with warm neutrals, blush pinks, brass, and natural textures,’ says Julian Page. ‘It’s incredibly adaptable and makes for a great transitional colour, too.’

Whether your aesthetic leans minimalist, modern, or full-on maximalist, millennial green brings a grounded, refreshing touch to any room.

Easy, breezy, and good enough to eat — sorbet shades are serving up serious summer style.

‘Think light lemon, pale tangerine and soft pink,' says Kunal Trehan, interior designer and founder of Touched Interiors. 'These are not loud or garish but warm, sun-faded tones that bring a quiet optimism to a space. Think less tropical punch and more Italian orchards at dusk.'

To dip into the trend, try styling small 'mini-scapes' on your mantel, tablescape or front door. 'To keep the look polished, anchor your sorbet palette with off-whites, soft greys, or brushed gold accents,’ Kunal advises.

Even without Bridgerton on our screens this summer, romantic decor is still going strong — this time with a soft, French countryside twist.

‘Inspired by vintage charm and period novels, Châteaucore will help you bring a little fairy-tale charm into your home,' says Dayna Isom Johnson.

To channel the look, layer natural textures and timeless details – think linen, wicker, delicate florals, and hand-embroidered accents. 'For classic elegance, try adding some vintage glassware,' Dayna suggests. Seek out one-of-a-kind treasures in charity shops and vintage fairs for that authentic, lived-in charm.
